Daly City Public Library Associates (DCPLA) is proud to announce the launch of our Daly City Youth Poet Laureate program. In partnership with the National Youth Poet Laureate Program, Urban Word, and Daly City Public Library, the program celebrates teen poets who live or attend school in Daly City and exhibit a commitment to artistic excellence, civic engagement, leadership, and social justice.

THE YOUTH POET LAUREATE RECEIVES:

  • $5,000 award

  • VIP status to represent Daly City at community events between May 2021 and May 2022

  • Publication of five of your poems in the National Poet Laureate annual anthology by Penmanship Books

Optional Free Online 2-Day Workshop

Hosted by San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto

Wednesday, December 2nd & 9th 5:00-6:00pm

Ms. Cassinetto will share some of her wealth of knowledge about the craft of poetry and help you prepare your poetry portfolio for submission.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must reside or attend school in Daly City.

  • Must be between the ages of 13 and 18 years old by the application deadline.

  • Serve as Laureate for the program year, May 2021 - May 2022.

Please email your five original written pieces, as well as the signed Participant Agreement and proof of eligibility to info@dcpla.org and make sure that your name is on your work. To receive a printed copy of the Participant Agreement form and for any questions about proof of eligibility, contact Victoria Magbilang at info@dcpla.org. All documents must have been received by January 31 in order to be considered.
