On November 23, 2020, DCPLA presented two grants to the City of Daly City.
The first grant of $5,220 is due to a generous donation from the Town of Colma, and will go to purchase additional Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots for checkout by library card holders.
To expand upon the ongoing Circulating Technology Grant, DCPLA will also donate $5,000 to the Library to purchase Playaway Launchpads. Funding for this donation is thanks to the support of our members, donors, and sponsors.
Daly City Public Library requested adding Playaway Launchpads to the circulating collection, focusing on the needs of young children and their families; specifically, as it relates to early literacy and kindergarten readiness. Launchpads are user-friendly tablets that each come pre-loaded with between 10 and 20 subject or theme-based apps. They are durable, even for small hands, as well as secure. Outside content can never be downloaded or added onto the tablets once they are ready for circulation. Launchpads are both educational and fun to explore and do not require Wi-Fi. Families can access them anywhere, just by turning on the device. These educational tablets would benefit the numerous families in Daly City who do not currently have access to mobile technology or Wi-Fi in their homes.
With the $5,000 donation from the DCPLA, the Library will be able to purchase a total of 30 launchpads, as well as 25 additional USB replacement cords. Each launchpad comes with an orange circulation case, an AC adaptor, a USB cord, and a 1-year warranty.
