In her State of the City address, Mayor Juslyn Manalo commended the Daly City Public Library Associates (DCPLA) as “a beam of Light to our communities shining brightly for our Youth, Families and Seniors by providing funding to support our library needs.” Mayor Manalo further stated, “Libraries are community hubs essential to our neighborhoods. I am so honored to present a Commendation to DCPLA for 10 years of extraordinary dedication and generosity to the Daly City community.”
DCPLA is gearing up for its anniversary celebration which will take place virtually on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Aside from a silent auction with items like a 2-night stay at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa City and a Honey Bear by fnnch, all attendees will be entered for a free raffle to win an Apple Watch. The highlight of the event, however, is the commencement ceremony for the Daly City Youth Poet Laureate, the first in San Mateo County. Founded in 2008 by Urban Word, the National Youth Poet Laureate Program identifies and celebrates teen poets who exhibit a commitment to artistic excellence, civic engagement, youth leadership and social justice.
“We are incredibly proud of our many accomplishments in the past ten years, and are excited to start a new chapter in our legacy with the launch of the Daly City Youth Poet Laureate program,” said Victoria Maier Magbilang, DCPLA’s Executive Director. “Showcasing our support of our libraries as well as the arts, DCPLA: 10 Years Strong will be an amazing community event!”
